Cycling fans big winners in new tour programCycling Australia and SBS have teamed up to give cycling fans an unprecedented insider's experience when the nation's elite cycling team, the Cyclones, contest this year's UCI Road World Championships.
The 2011 Championships being staged in Copenhagen, Denmark in September will be the first event for Cycling Australia Tours that will be extended in 2012 to include the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and London Olympic Games.
The UCI Road World Championships includes competition for elite men, elite women, under 23 men and under 19 men and women.
Cycling Australia Tours is powered by long-term broadcast partner SBS Television and the face of the Copenhagen program is the network's very own Matthew Keenan.
Keenan is an accomplished media talent who spent two seasons racing in Europe and is now a respected commentator.
"Fan-related tours like the one to this year's world championships, and to some of the other iconic bikes races around the globe next year, will be a unique experience for all involved," says Keenan. "What makes this tour unique is that it's with Cycling Australia so we'll be able to get as close to being part of the team as you possibly can.
"Most of us, at some point, have dreamt about making an Australian team but only a very select few actually do. This tour is a chance to at least rub shoulders with that dream.
"We've geared the tour to give participants a privileged look at one of the biggest events on the calendar, including an exclusive official Cyclones team presentation and pre-race briefings from key team staff," said Keenan. "I'm really looking forward to leading the tour because having the full support of Cycling Australia will ensure a great experience for everyone who joins us in Denmark."
Cycling Australia Chief Executive Officer Graham Fredericks is excited about the prospect of taking Australian fans behind the scenes at road cycling's blue-riband annual event.
"It's fabulous that we're kicking off our annual multi-tour program with the UCI Road World Championships," said Mr Fredericks. "The tour will take fans right into the inner sanctum of the Cyclones team and will be a truly unforgettable experience."
